Poetry books have surged in popularity in recent years, but what is it that makes people love them?

I can only speak for myself, and I know that for me it’s the ability to dip in and out. I can take five minutes to read a few pages and I will always feel the benefit. Poems are like micro-therapy for me!

And that leads me to what this page is all about: it’s a place to share the poetry books I love, and also those I write.

Poetry Book Categories

I’ll be categorising the poems that I love to enable you to navigate our website easily. This page will serve as a library that I update regularly and will include:

  • Nature Poetry
  • Grief Poetry
  • Children’s Poetry
  • Rhyming Children’s Books

Sub-Categorising Individual Poems

It’s common for poetry books to meander through themes, so I’ll also be writing about poems individually. In fact, my latest book The Shape of Loss is a good example of this.

Whilst the main theme is grief, I am heavily influenced by nature and it’s that connection that ultimately helped me to heal.  That’s why I’ll be creating posts for each poem so that my readers (you!) can enjoy my poetry without having to make a purchase.

To that point, you can also sign up for my newsletter to receive free poems and advance reader copies of my poetry books.

Healing Poems

I’m an advocate of creativity being a tool to help us heal. As I’ve mentioned, writing helps me immensely and I’d like to be able to help others too. I can do this through the words that I write but also by helping others work through their own emotions.

Someone asked me recently if I knew a poem for sadness, and I couldn’t quite understand what they meant. Then I realised, perhaps it’s poetry that empathises then provides a little hope and reassurance?

To be honest, it was then that I knew I was on the right path with my own diversion towards writing poetry.
