True happiness is of a retired nature, and an enemy to pomp and noise.

Joseph Addison (1672 – 1719)

Here we are in 2025, and I have to wonder what those who lived in centuries past would make of the excessive amounts of ‘pomp and noise’ we are bombarded with today.

I think the idea of a retired nature sounds rather wonderful!

Joseph Addison  was born May 1, 1672, Milston, Wiltshire, England.

Before his death on June 17, 1719, his creativity flourished.

As an English essayist, poet, and dramatist, he was a leading contributor to the periodicals The Tatler and The Spectator.

This period of history bestowed upon us greatness, and he is but one of many wordsmiths who inspire me today.
