Today I’m sharing poetry from my recent book. Although this poem came from a place of uncertainty while I was deep in grief, the associated emotion may be familiar to others who feel loss in other ways.

There are times when you feel that you’re just about holding it together, but fear taking a breath in case the walls around you collapse.

For those going through this, you’re not alone.

When I write poetry it soothes inner sadness, so I hope that my words reassure you a little when you read them.

Scared Little Girl: Poetry by Kate Taviner

Brave face
so strong
but inside I still long
for reassurance
to be held
to be told
that you're there
I can fold
you'll catch me
my worries dissolve
like snowmelt rushing to the sea
